At Hand

Welcome to the first post of The Daniel Mosaic, a weekly blog dedicated to exploring practical strategies to help people put the pieces of their dream together.

As I talk to to people, I often hear stories about a compelling dream of where they feel called to be.  These stories are fresh, exciting and life giving.  They are about impacting their world in a positive way.  And they almost always seem out of reach.

If you are one of those people I want to ask you a question.  What if everything that you needed to move forward into your dream was within reach?  What if it was already 'at hand'?

So what does 'at hand' mean?

An ancient story tells about a teacher and a idea that would revolutionize his follower's lives.  He told them that it was 'at hand'. The concept of 'at hand' comes from the Greek word engiken which also means 'has come near' or 'here'. It leaves the sense that there is no need to wait - one just needs to reach out and take hold.  What the teacher was saying was that it was time to move forward but his followers needed to learn to see things differently.

I suspect that some of the pieces of the dream you want to work towards are hidden right now in plain sight.  I know it was that way for me. I also would guess that other pieces you see clearly, but they don't seem like the right pieces to get you where you need to go.  Maybe you tried once or twice but got discouraged. Or maybe someone told you that it would never work. That was my experience too.

It makes sense that the way forward is not easy. This isn't just any dream we are talking about. It is a dream that resonates deeply within you. There is always resistance with such dreams, proportional to the greatness of the impact you will have.

However, if what you need to move forward is already at hand, that means that you can stop waiting and start to engage in a new way. You can let curiosity emerge and start asking questions? Curiosity and questions are the starting place for learning and a key piece to focus on as you begin to put the pieces of your dream together...
